Friends of the Campbell Library
The Friends of the Campbell Library group was formed in 1986. The group meets periodically throughout the year. The goal of the group is to promote and support the Campbell Branch of the La Crosse County Library.
The Friends group has two fundraisers each year. The Book and Bake Sale takes
place in the spring and lets members and customers do what they do best, eat and
read. The other fundraiser was new in 2000. The group took over sponsorship of
the French Island Christmas Craft Sale.
Through these fundraisers the group has been able to provide special programs to kick off the summer reading program and items needed in the library such as additional bookshelves and display cabinets. The group also sponsors the Make It and Take It program two times a year. Each participant decorates a ceramic Easter egg or a Christmas ornament to take home. Over the years this program has been very successful.
Annual membership dues for the Friends of the Campbell Library are $5.00 for an individual and $10.00 for a family. New members are always welcome. If interested in becoming a member or for more information contact the Group President Cindy Hauser at 781-0239 or the Campbell Library at 783-0052.
The smallest of the five county branches, the Campbell Library is located at 2219 Bainbridge Street on French Island. In 1975 the library was moved into the Campbell Town Hall. Over 10,000 items make up the library collection, which includes adult and children’s fiction and non-fiction, reference, magazines (30 subscriptions), videos (over 200 for adults and children), CD’s, cassettes, audio books, computer software, and Family Fun Bags.
Since 1986 the Friends of the Campbell Library have supported the library with fund raising and volunteer time. An annual book and bake sale is held in April. In the past this small, but hard-working group has supplied funds for shelving, board books, an entertainer to kick off the summer library program, an equipment donation, and free Internet access for the public.
